  5. Please read the enclosed file LICENSE.TXT, which contains your
  6. license agreement.

  13.     QUICKCD.DLL    CD-ROM access utilities

  15. Possibly required files from the distribution disk:
  16.     TOOLHELP.DLL    Diagnostic utilities. You only need this file
  17.             if you are running Windows version 3.0.
  18.     THREED.VBX    Visual Basic 3-D push buttons. You do not need
  19.             this file if you have installed the
  20.             Microsoft Visual Basic Professional Toolkit
  21.             on your system.

  23. Notes on installation:
  24.       -    You can install this version of the software over an existing
  25.     version by just copying the files.
  26.  
  27.       -    If you are installing this software for the first time, then
  28.     you should copy all files from the floppy disk onto your hard
  29.     disk. You can install the software into any directory; it does
  30.     not need to be in your Windows directory. However, your disc
  31.     database CDAUDIO.INI will always be in your Windows directory,
  32.     so you should back up that file in case your Windows directory
  33.     is ever damaged and you need to re-install Windows.

  38. Changes:
  39.     - Fixed problems with startup on some CD-ROM drives (the program
  40.       would sometimes hang or return errors). If you are experiencing
  41.       problems on startup, try adding the following lines to the
  42.       [Settings] section of your CDAUDIO.INI file (if you do not
  43.       have a [Settings] section then create one):
  44.  
  45.         ResetOnStartup=1
  46.  
  47.       This instructs CD Audio to reset the CD-ROM drive during startup.
  48.       It is totally safe but it does cause a slight delay during
  49.       startup. Possible values for the ResetOnStartup flag are:
  50.  
  51.           0    do not reset on startup
  52.         1    always reset on startup
  53.         2    reset on startup only if there is a CD in the
  54.             drive
  55.         3    reset on startup only if there is no CD in the
  56.             drive
  57.  
  58.     - Changed all CD-ROM error handling to a timeout scheme. By
  59.       default the time out value is 3 seconds. If you would like to
  60.       change it then add the following line to the [Settings] section
  61.       of your CDAUDIO.INI file:
  62.         WaitDiscChange=value
  63.       where "value" is the number of milliseconds to wait before
  64.       reporting an error from the CD-ROM drive.

  66.     - Fixed a bug that happened when you changed the CD while the
  67.       main window was iconized.

  73.     - Shuffling or Un-Shuffling now positions the CD at track 1
  74.       every time.

  79.       of a white background (i.e. it now inherits your desktop back-
  80.       ground)

  86.     - Fixed "Subscript out of range" errors that sometimes occured
  87.       when a disc program was in use. Also fixed generally flaky
  88.       behavior when you switch into or out of using a disc program.

  90.     - Fixed a bug where scrolling horizontally to the end of the
  91.       last CD track caused a "Seek error".

  93.     - Fixed positioning errors involving the up and down arrows in
  94.       the main window (i.e. current track indicator when the current
  95.       track is not visible in the window).

  100. New features:
  101.     - Smart main window re-sizes itself based on the number of
  102.       tracks in the CD and your Windows screen resolution. Takes
  103.       up much less screen space than its predecessor. Supports all
  104.       screen resolutions EGA or higher.
  105.  
  106.     - Added support for multiple CD-ROM drives attached to a system.
  107.       The Disc menu contains a "Select CD-ROM Drive" command which
  108.       is available when CD Audio detects that multiple CD-ROM drives
  109.       are present.

  111.     - More complete error reporting when an error occurs. The
  112.       CDAUDIO.LOG file now contains a memory dump for all errors;
  113.       this will help me track down bugs on a post-mortem basis.

  115.     - Copying track titles to the clipboard now copies the disc
  116.       artist and title on the same line instead of putting them
  117.       on separate lines (i.e. not copies "Artist - Title").
  118.  
  119.     - Enhanced the Order Form to include your preferred diskette
  120.       size, current version number of CD Audio, and Windows version.
  121.  
  122. Bug fixes:
  123.     - Added workarounds for certain CD-ROM drives that displayed
  124.       "General Failure", "Drive Not Ready", and "Invalid Disc Change"
  125.       errors. If you still experience these bugs, try adding the
  126.       following line to the [Settings] section of your CDAUDIO.INI
  127.       file (if you do not have a [Settings] section then create one):
  128.           WaitDiscChange=5000
  129.  
  130.     - Added workaround for certain CD-ROM drives that display the
  131.       wrong current track during playback. If you are consistently
  132.       getting the wrong current track highlighted for tracks >15,
  133.       try adding the following line to the [Settings] section of
  134.       your CDAUDIO.INI file (if you do not have a [Settings] section
  135.       then create one):
  136.           TrackFormat=hex
  137.  
  138.     - Exiting CD Audio via ALT+F4 now asks you if you want to save
  139.       changes to the disc database. Previously only exiting by the
  140.       Disc Exit command (CTRL+X) asked you.

  155. To run CD Audio, you need the following:
  156.       - Windows 3.1 or 3.0 (Multimedia Extensions are not required)
  157.       - Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX), version 2.20 or above
  158.       - Visual Basic runtime (VBRUN100.DLL)
  159.  
  160. These are not included with CD Audio; however, MSCDEX and the VB runtime
  161. are available on Compuserve. MSCDEX version 2.21 is in the Microsoft
  162. Software Library forum (GO MSL-1), filename CDEXT.EXE; VBRUN100.DLL is
  163. in the Microsoft Basic forum (GO MSBASIC), section 5 (Visual Basic),
  164. filename VBRUN.ZIP.
  165.  
  166. WORD FOR WINDOWS USERS: WinWord can hang on File Open, if you have an
  167. audio CD in your CD-ROM drive. Microsoft has fixed this bug with an
  168. interim release of WinWord, version 2.0a, which is available free of
  169. charge to registered WinWord users. Contact Microsoft Product Support
